Project Overview
The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country. The siting of the new building required relocation of major utility services and the demolition of an existing 10-story international housing building and an 800-car parking structure. The new hospital and parking garage is located on an eight-acre site at the south end of the DMC campus and includes the five-story DMC Heart Hospital and a nine-level parking garage designed to hold up to 1,750 automobiles.
Project Scope
Construction Phase
NTH provided construction materials testing services during the installation of the deep foundations as well as the utility installation for this project. These services included:
- Observation during drilling of caisson foundations to support the new hospital and parking garage
- Concrete placement for the drilled caissons
- In-place density testing for site utilities and initial grading
Client Benefit
NTH was called on to utilize our vast experience of the soil geology in southeast Michigan and further relied on this experience to assist in the installation of deep foundations while keeping the project on schedule and budget.
