Project Overview
Based on a relationship of more than 20 years, the NTH Project Manager worked closely with DTE to determine six facilities in need of new roof systems. NTH developed the scope of work, suitable for competitive construction bidding, at the DTE Allen Road Service Station, Beech Street Office Building, Big Rapids Service Station, General Office Building, Michigan Avenue Service Station, and Muskegon Service Station with a combined roof area exceeding 250,000 square feet.
Project Scope
Following contractor award, NTH worked closely with DTE project managers (and on-site personnel) to coordinate work with the roofing contractor. As part of the Quality Assurance Program, NTH observed all roofing contractor work on a full-time basis during construction operations to ensure that the work was satisfactorily performed in strict accordance with the NTH specifications and drawings. Additional considerations included making sure that the contractor satisfied the roof material manufacturer’s requirements so that a 20-year warranty could be provided to DTE.
Client Benefit
NTH provided a complete roof system design that resulted in a very competitive construction bid process, ensuring the lowest possible construction cost, as well as minimal change orders during construction operations (less than 2%). The Quality Assurance Program ensured DTE that the new roof system was professionally installed by a quality roofing contractor and would provide satisfactory performance for many years.
