Project Overview
This project entailed the immediate repairs to large diameter sanitary and combined sewer systems within the City of Detroit based on criticality of the systems and the identified defects. This project followed GLWA CS-169 which provided the inspection and prioritization of the owner’s assets to determine where the most urgent repairs are required to maintain the serviceability of the system.
Project Scope
NTH provided professional design services for the repairs to large diameter sewers. The repairs included chemical grouting to stop leaks, localized spall repair to replace missing or damaged concrete and reinforcing steel, spray-on geopolymer liner systems and carbon fiber reinforced polymer wrap to enhance the structural capacity of the sewer systems. In more than one case, the concrete structures required additional structural capacity due to the low cover over the pipes and increased traffic loading from the original design period.
NTH also provided on-site construction oversight services to verify the surface preparations, document the repair process, and address unforeseen field conditions. NTH documented the repairs with as-built drawings to include the location, repair types, and quantities.
Client Benefit
Unforeseen conditions were immediately addressed by the project team to keep the project on time and within the owner’s budget.
