MDOT – Jackson TSC Area As-Needed Inspection and Testing

Project Overview

The multi-year contract consisted of various construction services throughout the Jackson TSC area. MDOT requested the services of RS&H and NTH, along with other consultants, to provide the inspection and testing services as a team, to manage and complete the scheduled projects. NTH provided services on the following projects: 89.4 miles of non-freeway sign upgrading on M-49, M-50, I-94 BL, Mold M-99 and M-124, 10.55 miles of hot mix asphalt (HMA) cold milling and resurfacing and pavement markings on M-34 from west of Dey Highway to east of Benner Highway, 3.69 miles of HMA cold milling with single course overlay, shoulder gravel, centerline and shoulder corrugations, sidewalk ramp upgrades and pavement markings on M-50 from River Raisin to Ridge Highway, and .07 miles of HMA cold milling and single course overlay with detail 7 and 8 pavement repairs, sidewalk ramp upgrades, drainage structure repair, signing and pavement markings on M-34 from US-127 to McClellan Street.

Project Scope

NTH performed full-time and as-needed inspection, measurements, computations, documentation of quantities and reporting using FieldBook and ProjectWise for HMA cold milling, HMA placement, removals, sidewalk ramp upgrades, pavement markings and detail 7 and 8 pavement repairs. NTH performed as-needed quality assurance testing and sampling for concrete, sampling of HMA and delivery to the Jackson TSC laboratory, field density testing on aggregate base material, and reporting on associated MDOT forms. NTH also performed technical assistance with project files and concrete JMF submittal review.

Client Benefit

RS&H contacted several sub consultants to create a team and NTH was able to provide staff to assist in providing the services so the projects could be started and completed. NTH provided additional training and obtained required certifications to provide the additional inspection services. Being available allowed MDOT to perform the work that money was approved to be spent for and providing staff allowed the work to continue as scheduled.
