Project Overview
Consumers Energy is upgrading existing and building new substations across its service area in response to changing customer needs. NTH partnered with Consumers Energy to provide geotechnical engineering services for the expansion and improvements of the existing substations, as well as new substations at various locations throughout the Michigan’s lower peninsula.
Project Scope
NTH has provided geotechnical explorations at all sites that included test borings and field resistivity testing. Additional services were required on an as-needed basis at several sites. In total, NTH has worked at 62 Consumers Energy substation sites from 2018 through 2022 and are now involved with coordinating the 2023 projects.
NTH developed detailed geotechnical reports for Consumers Energy for each site, including recommendations for the foundation design and construction at each site. Throughout the duration of our services, NTH work included coordination with the designer and Consumers, to ensure collaboration between all parties and to promote open communications.
Client Benefit
NTH has helped Consumers meet design schedules, save travel costs, and mitigate fees an average of $2,300 per site.
